The Fellowship Program provides an opportunity for advanced academic training in specific clinical and/or research areas in Psychiatry. Ideally Fellowships are undertaken for two years, although a small number of candidates choose a one-year Fellowship. In general there are three different types of Fellows in the Department: Clinical-Research Fellows, Research Fellows, and Clinical Fellows.

The Fellowship Program receives applicants from within the Department as well as nationally and internationally. There is a standard application process and each Fellow works with a primary supervisor in a specific Program within the Department. Each Fellow must submit an annual report on their scholarly activities and an award is offered each year based on this report. The Fellowship Director reports directly to the Vice-Chair, Education and sits on the Education Council. The Fellowship Executive consists of representation from hospital sites as well as representation from Programs, Fellows and Psychiatry Residents.
